Advanced Screenshot Features
BoltShot offers a wide range of advanced features to help you capture exactly what you need — from device emulation and full-page captures to custom headers, geolocation, and stealth mode.
All options below are query parameters on /capture. Add &apiKey=your-api-key (or use the X-API-Key header) to each request.
Full-Page Screenshots
Capture entire web pages, even if they're longer than the viewport:

For better results with lazy-loaded content, enable fullPageScroll with a custom duration (in milliseconds):
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&fullPage=true&fullPageScroll=true&fullPageScrollDuration=2000&format=png
Device Emulation
Test how your website looks on different devices. Use generic categories or specific predefined device IDs:
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&device=iphone-15
Generic categories: desktop, mobile, tablet
Predefined devices include: iphone-se, iphone-15, iphone-16-pro-max, samsung-galaxy-s24, samsung-galaxy-z-fold5, google-pixel-8, ipad-air, ipad-pro-12.9, desktop-1080p, desktop-1440p, and more. Each preset includes viewport dimensions, user agent strings, and device pixel ratios. List all presets with https://api.boltshot.dev/devices.
Custom Viewport Settings
Control the exact dimensions of your screenshots:
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&viewportWidth=1920&viewportHeight=1080&scaleFactor=2.0
Element Clipping
Capture specific elements using CSS selectors. URL-encode special characters (e.g. # becomes %23):
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&clipSelector=.hero-section
Waiting for Elements
Wait for specific elements to appear before capturing:
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&waitForSelector=.dynamic-content&waitUntil=networkidle2
Ad and Cookie Banner Removal
Remove ads and cookie banners for cleaner screenshots:
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&removeAds=true&removeCookieBanners=true
Resource Blocking
Block specific resource types to speed up rendering. Pass a comma-separated list of Puppeteer resource types: stylesheet, script, image, font, or media:
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&blockResources=stylesheet,script,image
Or block specific URLs and patterns (comma-separated, wildcards supported):
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&blockUrls=*analytics.com,*ads.com
Theme Control
Capture screenshots in light or dark mode:
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&theme=dark
Supported themes: light, dark, auto
Custom HTTP Headers
Send custom headers with the browser request. Pass headers as a URL-encoded JSON object — useful for authenticated pages or localized content:
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com/dashboard&headers=%7B%22Authorization%22%3A%22Bearer%20your-token%22%2C%22Accept-Language%22%3A%22fr-FR%22%7D
Decoded value: {"Authorization":"Bearer your-token","Accept-Language":"fr-FR"}
You can include up to 20 custom headers per request. Headers such as Host, Connection, and Content-Length are blocked for security.
Custom User Agent
Override the browser's default user agent string:
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&userAgent=Mozilla/5.0%20(compatible;%20MyBot/1.0)
If you don't provide a custom user agent, BoltShot uses the appropriate user agent for the selected device preset.
Geolocation Emulation
Simulate a specific GPS location when capturing a URL. Useful for testing location-based content or geo-targeted pages:
https://api.boltshot.dev/capture?url=https://example.com&latitude=48.8566&longitude=2.3522
Both latitude and longitude must be provided together (latitude -90 to 90, longitude -180 to 180). Geolocation is supported for url captures only — not when using inline html input.
Stealth Mode
Paid plans automatically enable stealth mode, which makes the browser harder to detect as automated. This helps capture sites that block headless browsers or bot-like traffic. The free plan does not include stealth mode.
Stealth mode is applied transparently — there is no request parameter to enable it. It masks common automation signals like the navigator.webdriver property and headless Chrome indicators.
These features give you complete control over your screenshots. Check out our documentation for the full list of options.
